The Big Downsize- What’s in Store?!

Time is moving fast! This home that we bought as a foreclosure that needed DESPERATE attention is now completely renovated and has made a fabulous home for us and our 2 kids. But…we are onto a new journey, and it is all coming together. I haven’t said much about exactly what our plans are yet, but I want to share some of that with you today!

You see, back when I posted about buying our land, I mentioned we would be building {which we are!}, but I also mentioned we would be doing a big downsize in the meantime. That big downsize was delivered to our land YESTERDAY! I am very excited about this fun adventure, and I can’t wait to share the entire process with you!

As you can see, we bought a single wide trailer!

So, let me fill you in on all the details! We bought 20 acres of land in the exact area we have always wanted to be. You can read about all of that HERE! It all happened so fast, but it has been an amazing adventure so far! We purchased this mobile home a couple of months ago, and we couldn’t wait to get it out to the land so we could start fixing it up and living in it while the whole process of building took place. Well, let me re-phrase this…I couldn’t wait to start fixing it up ๐Ÿ™‚ While we aren’t sure of the exact timeline for the build or how long we will be living in the trailer- we do know that we will live here and make it ourย home in the meantime. The kids are thrilled {They will be sharing a room, and they think that is amazing. Edenย told me she couldn’t wait to talk to Blaize even more…how sweet!}, and I can’t wait to start making memories on our farm right away.

Now, this trailer is MUCH smaller than we are accustomed to, but if there is one thing I know to be true- the size of a house is not what makes a home. Don’t get me wrong, it will be an adjustment just for the simple fact of where to put our STUFF! HA! But, I am excited! It needs work on the inside, as far as cosmetic, so I can’t wait to dig in and make it pretty and totally my style!

Here are a few pictures of the inside:

This is the living room. Do you love the ceiling mirrors?? Ha.

It has brand new carpet, so that is a huge plus and not something I will change.

This is a look from the living room into the kitchen.

Trailer Kitchen Before

Here is a better look at the kitchen. I can’t wait to paint these cabinets! I have several other SUPER budget friendly plans for this space that I can’t wait toย share with you!

This is the view from the kitchen looking into the living room. You can also see a sneak into the mini laundry room.

Here is our Master Bath! Tell me how much you love this wall paper?? And of course the large mirrors where you can watch yourself bathe in all your glory….oh goodness…

This outdated vanity and lighting will NOT look like this when I am done with it ๐Ÿ™‚

And here is the kid’s room that they will share. I am looking forward to turning this into a room that they can enjoy together. It is going to be a little tricky, but I am excited to make it gender neutral but fun for both a boy and a girl! I am really excited about the color choices for this space!

Trailer Kids Room Before

There are lots more pictures, but this gives you a good idea of what we are working with! And of course, as I go along and finish each space, you will see more!

So, can you see the potential like I can?? As a decorator, I literally wake up thinking about colors, textures, styles…I can’t help it. It is definitely my passion. To have a blank slate like this is awesome! It will be really fun to put my stamp on- but HERE IS THE KICKER….I am on a super duper limited budget. And I mean super duper. It doesn’t make sense to spend a lot of money on this home when we are trying to build our shop and our dream home…so everything I do in this trailer is going to have to be over the top budget friendly and creative. That is always a challenge, but it is one I am definitely ready to take on!! I already have my colors and ideas picked out for this home, and I will be getting starting on implementing it all very soon!

If you don’t want to miss any of the action, I would totally encourage you to sign up for my emails! I ONLY send emails when a new post is live, and with all the FUN about to happen here- you will not want to miss it!

How exciting for you Brooke and it is always great fun choosing colours and styles etc no matter what you live in. The trailer looks huge and I am sure when you have completed ‘doing it up’, even though your on a budget, it will look beautiful.

I too had a period in my life where we bought, what we call a ‘caravan’, which was about a third of the size you have, and put it on some land that we bought while ‘doing up’ an old Farmhouse and it was quite fun and exciting making that into a home and watching the Farmhouse being ‘reformed’.

As regards the storage for your belongings, we decided to have built a double garage before we progressed to renovating the actual Farmhouse and stored all our belongings in that to save the cost of actually paying for storage units – perhaps you could do the same? Just an idea ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I can’t wait to see what you do with the trailer inside and will look forward to seeing the transformation and watching the ‘stages’ of your new house and shop being built.

Happy and Exciting days ahead for you ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m beyond excited to see what you can/will do with your “trailer”. [On behalf of all of us who live in one, please call it a “mobile home”. A “trailer” is that which you drag behind your vehicle.] ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I have loved your blog since I found it! I, too, have a tiny budget and I will follow your journey for inspiration.

    Have a blessed day!

I am so excited to see what you do with this single wide. We have been looking at buying a single wide at the beach so I need ideas. ๐Ÿ™‚

did you ever update how you did the cabinets and other projects in this trailer? I am in the same boat, a single wide waiting to build. I have not changed much but decided last week I might as well try to make it something I love now. We have the mdf/paperboard type cabinets in the kitchen and bath, similar looking to yours. I really really want to try chalk paint on them and chalkboard paint on our chipped laminate countertops. But my husband is a bit leery of me “messing them up”. I mean they can’t look much worse than they do now!! I just see SOOO many different recommendations for painting these fake type cabinets and am so confused.

[…] Tight budgets bring out creative minds. Being in this mobile home has truly made me so much more creative with how I spend money and how I organize {which I desperately needed}. In all honesty, most of the money that goes into this home will not be money that we will get back- unless we get really lucky. When you know that, you seriously start thinking outside of the box. I mean, let’s get real- you know I am not going to leave this home the way it was, temporary or not. I still want to be happy and feel at home, so making it as pretty as possible on a dime was/is a major priority to me. **If you follow this blog, you know that my husband and I have sold our foreclosure home and have moved to our 20 acre farm, where we are living in a single wide mobile home until we build our dream home {in a nutshell}.
