It’s an odd time of year for the crafting world… I’m not in the mindset yet to start on Valentines Day projects, but I wanted to make SOMETHING. Some of my favorite projects are ones that I can display ANY time of year… So, I decided to get in my craft room, and MAKE something that I can display all year long! I ended up coming up with a neutral chalkboard, and I think it’s just the most precious thing ever.
Hold on… did I mention that EVERYTHING you need for this project can be found for $1 or less?!?!
Here’s what you’ll need…
- chalkboard from the Dollar Tree
- mod podge
- hot glue
- 2 wooden rulers from the Dollar Tree
- hymnal paper (can also use scrapbook paper)
- sanding block (optional, but highly recommended)
- twine
- chalk
First things first… cut your wooden rulers in half! I already had mine pre cut from a previous project, which made it even easier!
Next, pick out your paper you want to use… since I wanted this to be more on the neutral side, I thought it would be the perfect time to use hymnal paper!
Go ahead and trace your ruler onto the paper, and cut out your piece.
Paint on your mod podge directly to the ruler, then stick on your paper!
This part is optional, but I HIGHLY suggest doing it. Sand the edges of your ruler, that way you can remove any overhang from your paper. It also leaves a nice rustic edge, which I prefer!
For this project, I decided to paint more mod podge on TOP of the paper as well. This just gives it a nice glossy finish, which I thought might make it look more “expensive”!
Here’s what it should be looking like so far!
Simply hot glue your rulers onto the sides of the chalkboard to create a nice frame!
Just to add a little bit of pazaaz, I went ahead and hot glued on some twine around the edges. I liked the little pop of texture it brought!
Lastly, write a little message onto the board… then you’re DONE!
Did this not turn out to be the cutest little chalkboard you ever did see?!?! I can imagine displaying this on my coffee bar, using it to layer with in my seasonal decor, and lots lots more!!!
Can we also just bring to light how EASY and AFFORDABLE this project was?! 😍
