how to make a diy christmas gift bag sign

There are SO many ways you can use gift bags, other than just for wrapping, of course! The best part? You can pick them up basically anywhere for CHEAP! I snagged this adorable “get your jolly on!” bag at my local Burkes Outlet in a pack of 10 bags for only $2.99!!! Score!

Today, I’m going to share with you how to make the CUTEST diy Christmas sign using supplies I already had lying around!

I actually did an ENTIRE LIVE VIDEO on this that you can watch right HERE!

For this project, I used the following items:

  • Christmas gift bag from Burke’s Outlet
  • Sign from either Dollar General or Walmart – I can’t remember
  • Apple Barrel Flag Red paint
  • Felt balls from Amazon – Find them HERE
  • Re-Fabbed paintbrushes – Find them HERE
  • Re-Fabbed scissors – HERE
  • Various ribbon from Dollar Tree, Walmart & Hobby Lobby
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

First, I cut out the wording from the gift bag that I planned to use for my sign. It says “get your jolly on!” I thought that saying was perfect for this sign! I am sorry this specific picture is backwards, but you can see it in the first picture!

Next, I grabbed my paint brush, and painted four vertical, WHIMSY red stripes down my sign. This does NOT need to be perfect, y’all!

After this dries, the next step in this process is to hot glue the gift bag to the sign!

After the gift bag cut out was secured, I glued my hot pink gingham ribbon as trim around the outside. This really made it look more “complete!”

Look how CUTE it is already looking! You could absolutely leave it like this if you prefer!

It was still a little plain for my taste, so I decided it needed a Re-Fabbed bow! See my tutorial HERE—> https://www.re-fabbed.com/make-bow-super-easy-way/ Don’t be afraid to mix and match all the different colors, patterns and textured ribbon!!

Lastly, I added 4 colorful felt balls to each corner and I think it really made it stand out!!! Y’all know I LOVE using felt balls in my crafting! You can find these fun felt balls right HERE!

HOW FUN did this turn out???

After creating this project, my mind was spinning with all kinds of other ideas for gift bags and boxes! Have you ever used a gift bag in your crafting? I hope this inspires you to look outside of the box next time you are in the gift wrapping aisle!
