how to update farmhouse christmas ornaments with pom poms

Earlier this year, during the Christmas clearance sales, I snagged these ornaments at Dollar General for pennies on the dollar! Even at the original $3 price tag, these ornaments are a steal! If you prefer neutral holiday decor, these ornaments would be a lovely addition as-is! However, y’all know I tend to decorate with a little more flair, so I wanted to add some fun colorful details. Come along with me as I show you how to update these farmhouse Christmas ornaments with pom poms!

For this project, I used the following supplies:

  • 3 Pack Christmas tree ornaments from Dollar General
  • Assorted pom poms in various colors and sizes
  • Re-Fabbed raffia
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

First, I popped off the little burlap bow at the top of the tree. I still love burlap, but I wanted something a little more colorful for these ornaments. The bows are just hot glued on, so they were easy to remove.

Next, I placed the pom poms all around the tree. I chose the placement of the pom poms BEFORE gluing them down. Once I figured out the arrangement I wanted, then I used hot glue to secure them to the tree.

Then, I selected a couple of colors of raffia to make a bow. For this tree, I chose red and pink for the bow. I LOVE red and pink together for the holidays! To create the bow, I simply wrapped the raffia around twice and secured the center with an extra piece of raffia. Then, I pulled out the loops and separated them to look like a bow.

This raffia is SO EASY to work with! I know I will use it for many holiday crafts and definitely for wrapping gifts! You can snag the set of 8 colors here!

Finally, I hot glued the bow to the top of the tree! That’s it! This was such a simple and quick makeover for these ornaments! Now, they have a nice whimsical look and will match perfectly with my decor!

What are your favorite colors to decorate with for Christmas? I have so many trees, so I love to mix it up and use different themes around the house. I hope this inspires you to recycle decor by just switching out or adding additional colors!

Don’t forget to pin for later!
