how to paint a dollar general 1776 Americana sign

I ALWAYS keep a few Dollar General signs in my craft stash! Can you relate?! This adorable little Patriotic sign is sure to make a big statement in your home, WITHOUT taking up much space or using many supplies!

To see the ENTIRE process, be sure to watch my LIVE VIDEO on FACEBOOK!

what you’ll need…

  • Wood beaded shiplap sign from Dollar General
  • Apple Barrel paint in the colors White & Admiral Blue
  • A Frayed Knot paint in the color Firehouse
  • Re-Fabbed Paint Brushes
  • Re-Fabbed Hot Glue Gun/Hot Glue
  • Various ribbon/fabrics of choice (for my Re-Fabbed Bow, of course!)

First, I painted the entire sign (AND the sides) white!

Next, I grabbed one of my thicker Re-Fabbed Paint Brushes and painted “1776” in the color Admiral Blue by Apple Barrel.

I grabbed some White by Apple Barrel and lightly painted whimsy polka dots on the 1 and the second 7 of the 1776. I did not wait for my blue to dry before I completed this step, I just went for it!

I flipped over my Re-Fabbed Paint Brush, and began to make “dots” around the outside of the first 7 and 6 of the 1776 using my Firehouse red paint!

And you already know, I can’t help but include a Re-Fabbed Bow!!!

Finally, I decided to go in and add some “highlights” to my polka dots, and this made a HUGE difference!

I’m LOVING this little sign on my built in’s!! The bow truly brought it all together, don’t you think?!?

The best part of this project?? You only need VERY minimal supplies! I’m telling y’all, it does NOT have to be complicated or expensive! Be sure to let me know if you try this one (or plan to!)
