I feel like Big Lots is overlooked, and I’m not sure why, because you can find some GREAT deals and projects for makeovers! Today, our team is showing you how you can elevate a cheaper looking piece, and incorporate it into your fall decorating!
This little sitter was only $2.99, and it definitely has more of a generic feel in my opinion… Follow along for the step-by-step tutorial of how we gave it NEW LIFE with supplies we already had on hand!

I’m a sucker for these Dollar Tree Sticky Tiles… I have used them in SO many projects recently! Click HERE to see what we’ve created so far!
The first thing we did was removed the burlap bow. It was stapled to the pumpkin, so it left a small hole. Good thing we had plans to cover this bad boy right up!
Simply trace the pumpkin onto the faux tin tiles and cut it along the line…shameless plug to my FAVE scissors!
Now it’s time to hot glue the tiles directly onto the pumpkin!
One of my FAVE mustard colors… apple barrel golden sunset!
We painted a very thin layer using a chip brush!
While the paint was drying, it was time to move on to the wood piece from Dollar Tree!
We traced the wood piece, cut out the scrapbook paper and mod podged it on!
We adhered it to the other pumpkin using my hot glue gun, and added a little stick to act as the stem!
And stained the top of the big lots pumpkin stem using a bit of Kilz Dark Wax!
Now it’s time for the most FUN part… embellishments! We added some FUN ribbon from my fall scrap ribbon pack from Hobby Lobby!
Bows are ALWAYS a good idea! We added bows to both of the pumpkins… because why not?!?
The stems were a bit too dark for our taste, so we added a TINY amount of warm buff to both of the stems to lighten up the wood and give it more of a washed look!
The FINAL look! Isn’t it so unique?!? 😍
The ribbon really brought it up a notch!!!
This combined Big Lots + Dollar Tree makeover turned out better than I imaged! Don’t you love when that happens??
Be sure to take this project and customize it to match your own decorating style! Have YOU ever used these faux tin Dollar Tree sticky tiles, or do you plan to?!? Let me know!
