Hidden Kitchen Finds New Life

Let me introduce you to a room renovation that will leave you in utter amazement! I am being dead serious when I say that this is one of the most jaw dropping transformations I have seen, and I have seen my fair share! {I mean, let’s face it..I watch a lot of HGTV around here.}

This kitchen actually belongs to a friend and co-worker of mine named Lauren. {I sure wish I could take the credit for this one!} Lauren has a very traditional sense of style, and her home is breathtaking. I really wish I could show you the whole thing, but I am just going to focus on this one room.

When her and Scott bought this home a couple of years ago, it was a beautiful home…even then, but the kitchen was very closed off from the rest of the house. It seemed dark, and it lacked much space. It did have a couple of touches of major character, which I loved, as did Lauren and Scott. The exposed brick wall and wood beams ceilings were a major plus and starting point for this soon to be amazing renovation.

Kitchen Renovation: Before

Here are a few before pictures of the kitchen: {iPhone pics}

Don’t you love the exposed brick?!

In this picture, she is standing in the doorway looking in. The brick wall is to your left from this picture. Pretty kitchen…just dark and closed off from the rest of the house. She wanted more space!

Here we go into the renovation process!

This room was a guest bedroom! Not anymore 🙂

Lauren's Kitchen Renovation

Boom! Out goes the guest bedroom! Can you believe how open this space is now!? Now, when you walk into this home, you can see the kitchen right when you walk through the door.

Well, after 9 long months of hard work…their kitchen is now completely finished and more amazing that I could have ever imagined!

Kitchen Renovation: After

They put in custom cabinetry that was designed by Specialty Designs in Fredonia, KY, and their countertops are granite {Niagara Gold} that they got from Stone World in Nashville, TN. The gorgeous hardware is from a company called Richelieu. I LOVE them! All appliances are *Kenmore Elite from Sears, and their floors are a ceramic tile intended to mimic slate. It is called Serengeti Slate.

I LOVE THIS BRICK WALL!!! How gorgeous…ahhh…

Gorgeous detailing…and of course, I love the hardware.

These are the wood beams that were already in the kitchen. I think they definitely add that special touch of character to this kitchen. Since the guest bedroom did not have wood ceilings, Scott and Lauren decided to extend that look so that it was more cohesive. You can’t even tell it hasn’t been here forever!

Ahhh…this granite…{Niagra Gold as mentioned before}

These two above pictures are from the entrance from the other before pictures {except now it is the second entrance!} Big difference, huh?!

I love how they put the microwave into the island. She said she didn’t want a lot of appliance clutter on her countertops! Who can blame her?! This is perfect.

Lauren's Kitchen Renovation

This rolling pin was her great grandmothers! Isn’t it gorgeous? I love how she incorporated it into such a beautiful display.

So, you tell me…do you think it could be any more perfect?I love the way she has pulled all of her decorations together in this space and made it feel so inviting. I feel right at home anytime I am there.

It is always so funny to me how in my home, I use cool colors {I mean hey…my kitchen is aqua, black and white!}, yet I absolutely love her traditional, warm colors so much. I truly love so many different styles. It will always be impossible for me to tag myself with one specific one.

I sure hope you enjoyed Scott and Lauren’s kitchen transformation as much as I did! It is amazing what you can do to a space if you can just see past what is there and into what could be. That truly is all it takes. {Well, that and a little blood, sweat and tears…but other than that!} <—-A little inside joke that anyone that knows Lauren will understand 🙂

    I know this kitchen well!!! My parents built the house in 1967 when i was 3. 🙂 The long framed photo in the first picture is a collage of photos to make a panorama that iIdid after taking my mom with me to a medical meeting in San Francisco (I’m a physician).
    The beams you mention are from my father’s family’s ancestral home. My great great great great grandfather served in the Revolutionary War. He received a land grant in Kentucky-Trigg County-in return for his service. Via covered wagon he brought his family from South Carolina to Donaldson creek and built a log home. Those beams are salvaged from his home.
    I love the transformation of my childhood home, and i am so happy that the house is loved and will continue to be so for many years.
