Dollar Tree Fruit Makeover

Does anyone love the Dollar Tree as much as I do?? I mean, I love to go in there and just spend way too long looking and seeing what I can use to make something else, or what I can paint or incorporate into my home decor. And, when you are shopping on a big time budget like I have been lately, the Dollar Tree is the perfect place to go and get those creative juices flowing. I mean, let’s face it- I am on a budget but I am not going to stop decorating. Many times, those don’t go hand in hand…but when you know how to think outside the box, some cool things can happen!

So, I was in there looking around one day for some inspiration–and I found these individual pears and apples! They do NOT match my decor or my style in the least, but…they would. You see, I have some awesome built ins in my dining room, and I have been wanting a bowl of fruit to display this summer. I wanted them to be a fun color that would spice the decor up a bit, but I didn’t see any I liked {within my budget}. When I saw these at Dollar Tree, I grabbed 5 and headed home. I knew I had the perfect remedy.

Here is what they looked like:

Dollar Tree Fruit

Good looking fruit for $5 total!

I had this awesome metallic gold spray paint on hand, and I have been waiting to use it on the perfect project–and this is IT! {I mentioned in my sea shell post that I have developed a spray paint addiction…}

Gold Spray Paint

So, I did what any good painter would do- I headed into my back yard, got an old pallet, set out my fruit and got to sprayin’!

Dollar Tree Fruit

Hint– You will barely use any spray paint on this project, so you will have LOTS left for other projects! And this is some awesome paint, so you will definitely want to have it on hand.

Dollar Tree Fruit

Holy smokes. When I saw these dried and finished, I was blown away. This paint is awesome. They look like high class, golden fruit now!

I was at Hobby Lobby looking through their clearance recently and found a super cute bowl for $4 that I knew would go perfectly on my built ins, so I had ended up having the perfect place for my new fruit!

Here it is on my built ins! My summer dining room is coming together so nicely with the aqua and blue–and now my awesome touch of GOLD!

Dollar Tree Fruit

So, what do you think? This gold spray paint really took this fruit to a whole new level! Do you agree?? I think we all need a touch of gold in our lives, even if it is just some spray painted fruit!

it’s amazing the transformation that spray paint makes!

I found some metal jewelry holders at the thrift store and while they were in OK shape I spray painted them various hues of turquoise.
      they look pretty amazing

Thanks for all the home decor ideas. We all are on a budget and this is helpful to think outside the box. I take a lot of ideas and make things in my clinic at my school. I am a school nurse right now and the kids love to see things made out of products from the dollar store. This has given the kids and teachers ideas for all kind of crafts. Thank you!

Hi Brooke! OMG I do love the gold Fruit!!! Reminds me of the other day my 4 year old grandson Jetson saw this little bird I have (kinda like your red one) and said “Oh GiGi your rich!!” I said “No honey I am not” he said “Yes you are your bird has gold legs so when you have gold you are rich!!” I just laughed and hugged him. Kids!! I wonder what he will think when I get the fruit and paint it Gold!!
My heart must be pure gold by now because when I am with him and Cohen I feel rich!!
Thank you for everything you do! I have had a liver and kidney transplant from a hereditary Dx and I look for things that are beautiful on a budget to make, and YOU have that happen for me!
    Thank you so much!
    Melissa

I love that gold touch and I am going to grab a can of that spray paint. I wonder how a bit of sugar glitter would look over it? If I try it I will send you a pic! Love your style!

I love your gold fruit and your bowl is your favorite color. You are a decorating genius Brooke, especially on a budget.

I would love some of the wax. I can’t find it anywhere in my area.

I love the gold painted fruit in the pretty blue bowl.
I already have the paint and a blue bowl. This can be my next project for sure. Brooke you always have the best ideas that look so lovely each time. I love to change out decorations in my home too. It is just so much fun and I love crafting projects.
Would love to be a winner for this writing of the project you did with the fruit.
