diy driftwood utensil holder

It’s finally starting to feel like spring here in Kentucky, and boy am I ready for it! The stores are filled with new home decor, and I’m seeing A LOT of driftwood pieces! I’m seeing a variety of items, everything from large pieces of driftwood to just small accents of driftwood. Hobby Lobby had a bag of mixed pieces, so I decided to buy it and see what I could come up with. I have always loved coastal colors. They are so soothing, and now that we have purchased a condo on the beach, I am so excited to start my collection of coastal decor! I had an old bamboo utensil holder that needed a refresh, so I decided to get creative!

For this project, I used the following:

  • Utensil holder
  • DecoArt Chalk Paint – Serene Blue
  • Driftwood chips – Hobby Lobby
  • Foam paintbrush
  • Hot glue gun

After cleaning the surface of the utensil caddy, I painted it with two coats of chalk paint. I painted both the outside and inside of the holder. I LOVE this blue shade! I think it pairs perfectly with the wood pieces.

Once the paint had dried, I sorted the driftwood pieces and began gluing them to the bottom of the holder with hot glue. I decided to glue them on in a pattern of large and small pieces.

Do you remember the DRIFTWOOD CHRISTMAS TREE I made using these same pieces??

After completing the bottom layer, I had several pieces leftover, so I decided to add an additional layer at the top. Then, it was complete! So easy!

This was SO SIMPLE! It looks completely different now, and it definitely has a coastal vibe!

I can see this being used for many different things! It’s a perfect utensil holder, but it would also work as a plant pot or hair tools caddy! Where would you use this? Where else could you use these driftwood pieces? So many possibilities!

Be sure to PIN this for later!
