thrifted vase makeover

You know I love a good thrift store find! I recently strolled through a thrift store and spotted this adorable vase! It was perfect in so many ways – I loved the shape, size and weight! The only negative was the color, but I knew that was an EASY fix!

For this thrifty makeover, I used the following supplies:

  • Thrifted vase
  • Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint in Glossy White
  • Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint in Matte Black
  • Sponge paint brush

This vase was only $3, and I loved the long neck and small base on the bottom.

Before painting, I always make sure the surface of the item is clean and dry. After wiping it down, I started by painting the entire vase white. I made sure to include the inside of the vase at the top opening.

After about three coats, it was ready for the next step! With the white base, you can really see how unique the vase is. I love how pottery is slightly imperfect!

Next, I wanted to add some black polka dots. Since the pottery is slightly imperfect, I wanted my polka dots to be imperfect as well!

I painted polka dots all around the bottom “belly” portion of the vase using my foam brush. You could definitely use a round dabber if you want more symmetrical dots. I loved just making them really whimsy and imperfect…that was part of the fun of this vase for me!

Next, I painted black stripes on the neck of the vase.

Finally, I painted the base at the bottom black as well.

To me, this turned out perfectly “imperfect!” Exactly what I was going after!

I knew this vase would be perfect for some brightly colored flower stems! It would also be perfect just setting on a shelf as is! Black and white is so classic!

It is so fun to buy something old and give it new life, and that’s exactly what I did with this vase! What is your favorite thing to paint? What color would you have chosen for this vase? I can’t wait to see your creations!

Ok I’m not gonna lie..I probably wasn’t a fan about painting over unique pottery but you add “Happy” to everything you touch! This piece is what my music room is like. Make Happy! I will definitely try ! Blessings Sis!

Actually, that wasn’t a vase. It was a vintage Mexican pottery water carafe. It was missing the cup that’s normally set upside-down on the neck.
