how to mod podge christmas hymns to create ornaments

Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year, and one of my favorite things is listening to Christmas songs! Whether we are belting them out in the car or singing them in church, I love Christmas songs. I recently found a church hymnal at a used book store and decided to make ornaments using Christmas hymns. With just a few supplies, I created some precious ornaments for our tree!

For this project, I used the following supplies:

  • Church Hymnal or printed songs
  • Wood shapes – Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam paintbrush
  • Red elastic – Dollar Tree
  • Sanding block
  • Evergreen sprigs
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

First, I selected a couple of Christmas songs from the hymnal and removed them from the book.

Dollar Tree has several wooden shapes in the craft aisle, and they were perfect for this project! I laid the wooden pieces on top of the song, making sure to center it. Once I had it aligned how I wanted it, I traced around the wooden piece and cut it out.

Next, I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge on the wooden shape and laid the paper on top.

After it dried completely, I applied another thin layer of Mod Podge on top to seal it.

Again, I set it aside and allowed it to completely dry before proceeding.

Once it was dry, I took my sanding block and sanded down the edges for a seamless finish.

Now it was time to add a touch of greenery. I had an evergreen pick with some red berries, so I just clipped off a couple of branches and hot glued them at the bottom of one and the top of the other.

To finish the ornaments, I added a hanger using the red elastic.

I absolutely love the end result! They feel very nostalgic!

This was such an easy and inexpensive diy project!

Did you grow up singing Christmas carols? I hope this inspires you to capture your favorite songs to add to your tree!

Be sure to PIN this for later and share with a friend!

After seeing this I think I will use Christmas cards from my parents. They both have passed in the past 6 months.
