how to make a diy freedom sign using sticky tiles

Do you enjoy crafting for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July?? I don’t do a TON of decorating inside my home, but Patriotic crafts are so fun to me! Join me with this fun project using Dollar Tree sticky tiles I had left over from a previous project!!

what you’ll need…

  • 10×8 framed wood sign from Dollar General
  • Faux tin tiles from Dollar Tree
  • Scrabble tiles from Amazon
  • A-Frayed-Knot paint in the following colors: Tahoe, Cotton & Firehouse
  • Re-Fabbed Winter Wonderland Scrapbook Paper
  • Re-Fabbed Hot Glue Gun
  • Re-Fabbed Scissors (coming back in stock soon!)
  • Re-Fabbed Paint Brushes (coming back in stock soon!)
  • Ribbon of choice

The famous Dollar Tree faux tin sticky tiles! I have also used these for a St. Patricks Day sign & a Christmas sign!

First, I found a star online that I liked the size of and printed it out on my printer *referral*.

I simply cut out the paper star, and then used it as a template to cut out three stars shapes from the sticky tiles (regular scissors work just fine).

Next, I decided to paint my stars. Since I had three, I went with the classic red, white and blue! I painted over the stars lightly so they had more of a “worn” look. You could leave them as is, or paint… the decision is yours!

Here we are- I love the worn, imperfect look!

While the paint dried, I grabbed my scrap ribbon, scrabble tiles, and decided to spell the word “Freedom”. I thought it was both fitting for the occasion and the perfect length for this sign!

I hot glued the ribbon onto my sign, and then each individual tile to my ribbon using my Re-Fabbed Hot Glue Gun.

I decided to give it some extra dimension using some of my whimsy workshop scrapbook paper behind the stars!

Ahhh… scrapbook paper never fails me!!!

Here she is on my coffee bar!!! Did I mention I already had ALL of these supplies lying around?? It’s like it was meant to be!

I adore this little sign, and I can’t wait to sit it out for both Memorial Day and the Fourth of July! Are you inspired to grab up some of these Dollar Tree sticky tiles??? As always, I’d LOVE to see your take on this project!
