dollar tree bohemian rug

Bohemian styles are everywhere right now, and I love to add a touch here and there in my home. The bold colors paired with gold accents are so fun! With trendy styles, I don’t like to spend a lot of money since I probably won’t use it long term. While at the Dollar Tree recently, I spotted a rug in the “Plus” section and decided to turn it into an accent pillow. This was so easy and turned out just like I was hoping!

I started with the following supplies:

– Accent rug from the Dollar Tree
– High temp hot glue gun
– Chip clips
– Standard bed pillow

The first thing I did was fold the rug in half, matching up the fringe on the ends.

Once I had the fringe and sides of the rug lined up correctly, I began applying the hot glue just behind the tassels on the rug.

After applying the hot glue, I used a chip clip to press the ends together. I first did this with my fingertips, and I DO NOT recommend that! The glue WILL come up through the fabric just a bit. Using the chip clip, I was able to clamp it and then apply more pressure to the plastic part…not harming my fingers in the process!

If you don’t have a chip clip, get creative and grab anything that would apply the pressure needed. Chip clip, binder clip or pants hanger will all get the job done!

Continue gluing and clamping down the edge with fringe. You only need to clamp down on the glued seam for a few seconds to make sure the glue really settles in the fabric. Next, you will move on to one of the sides and use the same method.

After you have glued the bottom and one side, it’s time to stuff it with a bed pillow. Bed pillows can be purchased super cheap, or you may have one lying around your house that’s not being used.

Once you have stuffed the pillow completely inside the casing, you will glue the end closed.

You’re done!!! How simple was that?!

Now you have a large pillow that would have easily cost $40 in a store!

Look at all the beautiful colors you can pull out from this pillow! You could also take two rugs and glue them together to create a floor cushion!

Such a quick and inexpensive way to create large accent pillows!

Be sure to PIN FOR LATER!
