diy snowflake tray with pan protectors

The winter months can be rather dreary, so I love to have pops of color all around my home to brighten the space up a bit!! While walking around the Dollar Tree the other day, I spotted these pan protectors hanging in the kitchen section, and I instantly saw SNOWFLAKES! I knew I needed to create something fun with them, so I did just that!

For this project, I used the following supplies:
– Wooden tray
– Pan protectors from Dollar Tree
– Paint for the tray color
– White paint
– Sponge paint brush
– Small flat edge paint brush
– Glue

I had this old tray lying around, so I decided to give it a little update. I was torn between a coral or key west, but ultimately I chose to paint the tray key west, because you know how much I love that color!

Before painting, I wiped down the tray really well. Since the tray was previously painted with chalk paint, it already had a good base to paint over. I painted the entire tray using Apple Barrel Key West and set it aside to dry.

While the paint was drying on the tray, I started working on the “snowflake.” The pan protectors were gray, and I actually liked the color, but to add some contrast, I decided to paint the edges white. I used a small paint brush with firm bristles to create a clean line. Then, I simply dabbed the paint on the edges of the pan protectors.

After everything dried, I started gluing them to the tray, beginning with the largest one. I applied glue to the back and spread it out using a paintbrush.

I decided to place my snowflake in the corner, so the snowflake would go up on the sides. I love the oversized look of the snowflake.

I layered the other two on top, offsetting them to create a snowflake. Since the plan protectors are so thin, the snowflake is not very thick, making the tray very usable.

I love the simplicity of this tray and how it can be used all winter long! You can easily incorporate it with your Valentine décor as well if you want!

How cute would it be set up by a coffee bar? It would be beautiful as a centerpiece on the table as well! Who knew a few pot and pan protectors would make a cute snowflake?! Such a fun and inexpensive little project!
