diy metal dollar tree planter

If you’ve ever been to Dollar Tree, I’m sure you’ve seen the little galvanized metal planters. I’ve passed by them several times, but never purchased one…UNTIL now! I loved the depth and shape of it, but I was not a fan of the shiny metal surface. I decided to paint it and give it a little makeover to match my style! I love it now!

For this little makeover, I used the following supplies:

  • Galvanized metal planter from Dollar Tree
  • Waverly chalk paint in white
  • Wooden half beads
  • Sponge paint brush
  • Sanding block

This was a bit of a last minute project, and the little wood beads were an afterthought; therefore, I had to get creative! I had this bunny ready-to-paint project that I hadn’t used, and it had little half beads glued all the way around. You better believe I got my flathead screwdriver and popped those suckers off to use for this project! The wooden beads can also be purchased at a variety of craft stores.

Using hot glue, I glued the half beads around the top rim of the planter, leaving a little space between each bead.

After gluing on the beads, I painted over the beads and planter with white chalk paint. I used the Waverly brand from Walmart. They have these smaller bottles for under $2, and it’s the perfect size for projects.

I applied three good coats of paint and allowed it to dry completely.

Next, I used a sanding block to go over the letters and the top and bottom rims. This exposed the black letters underneath and the metal on the rims.

How darling did this turn out?! I love the classic white with a little distressing! It’s perfect with a few flowers thrown in to brighten a space!

This would also be a precious soap caddy in a bathroom or by the kitchen sink. You could also store remote controls and other loose items in the living room. How about mail? Do you have mail accumulating on your table or countertops? This would be a perfect storage option for mail!

I hope this inspires you to get a little creative with these metal planters. Where would YOU use this?
Be sure to PIN this for later!

I love a great Dollar Tree find. I have one of these metal planters and that is exactly what I am going to do with mine, plant in it. HAHA…it sat on the deck all last summer, time to do something with it.

I have this galvanized metal planter from the dollar tree. I painted mine white and added buffalo check ribbons around the top. It came out great. I love yours also with the half beads. Your crafts are so cute.

This is absolutely gorgeous and one of my favorites. I did this for a friend who lost her fiancée in a farming accident & she just loved it.
