Decorating for Fall with existing Decor plus Dollar Store finds

So, I confessed in my Fall Dining Room Makeover that I am not typically a Fall decorator! This year was an exception, and I am glad it was! I realized just how FUN it was…and I have big plans for future years. I have to admit, I am still looking forward to Christmas {Just can’t help myself!!!}, but I do really enjoy Fall 🙂

So, since I had never decorated for Fall in the past, I obviously didn’t have any Fall decor on hand! {Makes sense!} I knew I wanted to decorate, but I also knew I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg, so I thought I would be creative. I scoured the house for different pieces of decor, frames, papers, etc.. that would go along with somewhat of a “Fall” look. I didn’t necessarily want pumpkin overload this first year, so I went pretty subtle. I hit up my local Dollar Tree, and for $7.00, I scored some great stuff!

Decorating from Dollar Tree and existing items

My original plan was to spray paint all of this to match the rest of my home. I had white or metallic silver in mind…BUT when the time came to actually decorate, I liked the existing colors, so I kept them! Easier on me! Winner!

Dollar Tree decorating

I decided to just decorate the dining room this year {and a little of my mantle…which will come in a later post}, so it was fun to decorate my built ins! I left some of the stuff on my shelves, and changed the rest out with Dollar Tree finds or stuff I had around the house. I already had the mason jar and a bag full of pine cones, so I just filled the jar with my little gourds and pumpkins, sat a pine cone by my frame..and done!

Another mason jar I had on hand with more pine cones! Easy and so cute!

I had the mason jar, but wanted it to be more “fally” {A word?!?!}, so I painted it black, then covered it in orange so that a little of the black would show through…then I tied some twine around the top and it was done. So simple. These are 2 little pumpkins I found at the Dollar Tree. How cute are they?!

These cool candle holders were already on my shelves, and I have never had a candle in them. I had 2 bigger pine cones, and I just sat them right in there. They fit perfectly, and I LOVE them!

I had these frames, but I decided to take one of the pictures out and put some cute scrapbook paper in it that went with my theme. {another post about decorating with scrapbook paper is coming soon!} I also took one of my pumpkins and laid it on its side to add some flair.

Fall Dining Room Makeover Berry Wreath

Dollar Tree decorating

Perhaps my FAVORITE addition to this space was my berry wreath that I have had a few years! I got this from Big Lots, and it is perfect for fall. I thought it added the perfect touch to this shelving! What do you think??

I didn’t get a good picture of the silver pitcher, but it was a thrift store find that I have had in another room, and it works perfectly with this look.

By adding a few pine cones and pumpkins here and there, I finished off the shelves!

This nest was already on my table, but the tablecloths are a new addition. I got them free from my sister-in-laws yard sale! SCORE!

Here is a little before and after of all the changes!

So, for $7.00 TOTAL for items bought for this specific room, I have totally changed the look for Fall! All it took was me looking around my home for items that had a little more of a “Fall” feel, and a quick trip to the Dollar Tree for some specific items…and it was a wrap! Doesn’t get much easier than this folks! There is nothing more fun than shopping your own home for items, and I am ALWAYS ready for a trip to the Dollar Tree!

I hope you enjoyed this makeover! Tell me what you think! Are there any neat ways you save money on your decorating for the seasons? Please share!

Hi Brooke! I love that wreath too and I must admit I haven’t payed a lot of attention to the Fall decorating either. So this post has been really inspiring for me. I wanna go out and “gather” all the things I can find to do the same!!!! Haha
I’ve read your “about me” section as well and it made me smile. You sound so positive and I hope I will manage to do the projects I set my heart to, as you say. We need more people like you. Have a great day!
