Dear John Chest Makeover

I love it when a plan comes together. I don’t know if you are like me, but sometimes I have a visual in my head about how something will turn out, and when I go to implement my awesome plan, it is a big fat FAIL. There are plenty of things I have done that would be perfect for those “Pinterest Fail” articles! BUT…this is not one of them!

I bought this little chest at our local booth mall because I loved the size, and I thought it would be perfect for my “one day” office. Well, as things go, I let it sit in the garage for a few months because other things kept taking priority. But then, all of the sudden, my office became a top priority! My husband and I have decided that after the first of this year, I will be coming HOME to be a work from home momma to my 2 precious kiddos! My “one day” office was now a “2 month from now” office, so I had to get my butt into gear! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is how the chest looked when I first found it! {The top part actually got messed up while sitting in the garage, but I didn’t care because I knew I was going to paint it anyway}

Little Chest

Now, I didn’t hate the color or anything, but it just wasn’t what I had in mind.

The top handle was broken, so that is where I let my imagination kick in. I loved the hardware, so I didn’t want to change them out. They looked beautiful with the details of the piece, so I decided I would try something a little different.

Little Chest

I removed the drawer and put storage baskets! I am so happy with the result! Not only do I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the color {Vintage Market & Design~ Dear John}, but the baskets were the perfect fit and gives it a little “extra” oomph! I am just thrilled with how well this plan came together and how beautiful this piece now looks! {And if you notice, the wall color also changed! This is just a small sneak peek into the office reveal that is coming very soon!}

I just spray painted the hardware a bright white, and they turned out perfectly. The white really pops against this green.

The typewriter is an auction find that I was so excited to use. It is in MINT condition, and I think it looks so cute sitting up there ๐Ÿ™‚ The artwork is some fabric that I framed a while back. I love using fabrics and scrapbook paper to decorate. It is so cute and affordable. I just loved this specific pattern, as well as the beautiful burnt orange color.

What do you think of the Dear John Chest makeover?! Do you like the color? Do you like the basket idea??

    Did you have to cut a board for inside of drawer in order for baskets to set on? If so, how did that work?

      No ma’am, we didn’t have to put anything down. We just removed the tracks that the drawer had been on. I then just lightly sanded so it would be smooth.
