Creating a More Mature Space for a Tween Girl

My neighbor and friend {and might I add, fellow blogger at Fun Home Things}, Katie…asked me to come and do a re-vamp on her 8 year old daughter’s bedroom. Katie is an excellent decorator herself, but she had 1000 other things going on, as well as her own master bedroom overhaul that she is working on, and honestly- she didn’t want to worry with it and wrap her head around 2 totally different styles. Who could blame her?!

She told me a few things that she knew she wanted for Sophie’s room, which was to use touches of gold, a new rug and new curtains. She also was not going to paint the room for a few more years, so she needed it to fit in with the current pink. Sophie is the greatest kid ever, and I love her dearly, so I wanted her room to be just as fabulous as she is!

Here are a few pictures of her room before:

Katie just wanted her to have a more mature space as she is getting older, but not a full overhaul, so she didn’t want to spend a bunch of money. She is still young and has some growing to do, so they were going to wait on that for a few years. I think that is a perfect plan, so I did my very best to make her space as mature, yet young and fabulous as I could.

Here are a few pictures of what the space turned out to be (adding a few new items to mix with her own!):

Framed wrapping paper is always an easy way to add some jazz to a space!

Well, what do you think? Do you think I did a good job of finding the right balance for this awesome 8 year old? Well, let me tell you- no matter what the opinion of anyone else, she LOVED it, and in the end- that is truly all that mattered anyway. I wish you could see the video of her dancing around when she saw it. Priceless. That is truly why I do what I do. I love for people to find a new love for their space, and it really is true that you don’t have to spend a fortune to love your space again!

Love what you did with Sophie’s room! Those curtains are so sassy and the lamp shade is perfect! Did you paint on the wildfires or are they stickers?
