$5 Coffee Table Makeover

For a girl like me, there is nothing better than a good yard sale. It gets my blood pumping and my creative juices flowing. So weird, but so true. What is even better than a good yard sale is a good yard sale done through the comfort of text messaging! If you remember my hexagon side table, you will remember the story of my co-worker’s “text message yard sale.” {Take a look back if you want to hear the whole story.}

Well, this beautiful piece came from that yard sale! Priced at just $5, it was love at first sight. How could I not love this awesome detailing on BOTH sides?! It is a chalk painting girl’s dream.

{Don’t you love how my garage has a little of everything? Hunting clothes and a Christmas tree all in the same picture!}

It’s a little beat up, which makes it even better! I am in the process of becoming a retailer for Vintage Market & Design Chalk paint, so I had lots of samples on hand of colors I was wanting to try. I decided to go bold with this one! I have never been one to steer clear of color! After all, it is JUST PAINT…you can always paint over it. I went with VM&D Apple Green…and yes, I have fallen in love!

{Pardon the quality of these pictures. I had to use my iPhone because the color just was NOT showing up right with my camera, no matter what I tried. And the color is my favorite part!}

With this piece, I painted the first coat with a light gray {just for the base coat- to cover the wood color}, then I covered it with the Apple Green. I wanted it to where some of the white showed through, especially in the crevices…and on top. I then covered with the VM&D clear wax. The clear wax really deepens the color. This piece is sold, but I am so wishing I could hang on to it! I will for sure be using this color again in the future!

Do you see the pretty stained tray on the table?! Well, my friend Shara from Chasing a Dream blog made that! We have a booth together in town, and I bought it! I just couldn’t resist. I knew I would get a ton of use out of it, so it was a no brainer. I told her she needed to do a tutorial on her blog on how to make one! Don’t you agree?

    You did an awesome job..it’s a keeper…for the one who buys it! I wouldn’t have chosen the Apple Green but you made it look good. I did however recently order VM&D chalk paint just because you recommended it. I told them that when I bought it…that you had recommended it so highly I just had to try…
    I got a $5 cabinet for my bathroom on what we have called VarageSale…a virtual garage sale. Awesome. I painted it Sea Shell and it’s a it more grey than I wanted but the paint was super easy to use! And it’s a laminate cabinet..
    I love your site…how does one become a retailer for VM&D?

    LOVE that table! (And would ❤️ to have 1 of your friend’s tray! Does she have a link- or, if not, a tutorial?).

    I have 2 tables similar to your piece that I thought should at least be sanded down because they are pretty beat up. I love what u did but scared to attempt this job. I really would like to restrain and then paint them white for that farmhouse look. Help!! You are so talented. Thanks, Laurie

    I love the color! I have a heavy coffee table that has some grandkids love on it. Someday I may paint it.

    Wow!! I’m in love with this project Brooke. The color really popped and something I would try down the road, thank you. I’ve never used chalk paint but I’ll have to look into more ideas.

    Beautiful shade if green. Is it for sale? Or do you use it in your home? I do like your style of decoration. Whimsical decorations are so pretty.
